چکیده

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different levels of forage and concentrates diets on the metabolism of glucose, β-hydroxybutyrate (BOHB) and nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) in livers of nonlactating goats. Six catheterized GuanZhong goats (40±2 kg weight) were fed high concentrate diet (HC, 40% hay, 60% concentrate) or high forage diets (HF, 60% hay, 40% concentrate). Blood samples were simultaneously taken from the portal, hepatic and arterial catheters at 0 h, before feeding, 2, 4, 6 and 8 h after feeding. The HC fed goats exhibited higher (P<0.01) plasma glucose concentration and arterial flow accompanied by NEFA, BOHB(P<0.01) and hepatic glucagons concentrations (P<0.10) while NEFA portal flow and BOHB hepatic flow decreased (P<0.05). Glucose portal-arterial concentration difference and hepatic-portal concentration differences in BOHB and NEFA tended to decreased (P<0.10) with increasing NEFA portal and hepatic arterial concentration differences (P<0.05) in HC fed goats. There were no differences in net flow of glucose, BOHB and NEFA across splanchnic tissues, but a decreased net portal absorption in NEFA (P<0.05) accompanied with a tendency for depressing its net PDV plus hepatic uptake (P<0.10). In conclusion, the high concentrates diet may increase hepatic gluconeogenesis in nonlactating goats.

Effects of garlic supplementation on energy status of pre-partum Mahabadi goats

To evaluate the effects of garlic on some blood metabolites in pre-partum dairy goats, the ration was supplemented with raw garlic at the doses of 0, 30, 50 and 70 g kg-1 of Dry matter (DM) in eight pregnant Mahabadi breed goats (59 ± 1 kg initial live weight) in a replicated Latin square design during the last two months of pregnancy. Each experimental period lasted 14 days with the first 12 d...

Effects of natural polymer (Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate) and its degrading bacteria on lipid metabolism and digestive tract pH in Siberian Sturgeon Acipenser baerii Brandt, 1869 fingerlings

Five hundred and ninety two Siberian sturgeon (A. baerii) fingerlings (average weight, 11.1±0.9 g) were randomly distributed in 16 tanks (150 L) at a density of 35 fish per tank and fed different treatments (Control, degrading bacteria, 2% PHB, degrading bacteria + 2%PHB) for 60 days. At the end of the experiment, the results indicated that the fish fed PHB or bacteria treatments had low midgut...

Study on the effect of left displacement of abomasum (LDA) on serum minerals and biochemical changes in dairy cows

Minerals and some biochemical parameters determined from blood serum analyses in left displacement abomasum (LDA) affected and healthy dairy cows to evaluate the effect of displacement abomasum on mineral status, energy metabolism and liver function. Samples were collected from 60 affected cows and 60 healthy control cows matched with cases, based on herd, parity, and stage of lactation. Concen...

The effects of post-partum drops in body condition on indices of energy metabolism in mid-lactation Holstein cows

Background: Evaluation of energy metabolism indices in mid-lactation Holstein cows is critical to monitor health status. Aims: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of low (≤0.75) vs. high (>0.75) drops in body condition score (BCS) until day 60 post-partum on energy metabolism indices during mid-lactation in Holstein cows. Meth...

A field study on glucose, non-esterified fatty acids, beta-hydroxybutyrate and thyroid hormones in dairy cows during the breeding period in Fars province, Iran

Background: It was hypothesized that under apparently good management practices in dairy farms, some cows may not be metabolically perfect during the breeding period and this may affect their performance. Aims: This study was conducted to assess probable metabolic drawbacks in mid-lactation dairy cows affecting their performance. Methods: Thirt...
